About Us

The city of Itarsi is located in Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh , as its name suggests, is situated in the centre of India and is the second largest state of the country. The geographical location of Itarsi between 22036’-22038’ North Latitude and 77040’-77051’ Longitude. The city is situated at a height of 305 mts above the sea level. It is the highest populated industrial city of the district. According to the 2011 cencus, the city has a population of 114495. Scheduled caste and Scheduled tribes account for 20% its population. Itarsi is the biggest Junction of the eastern central railway.

            Govt. Girls College, Itarsi, is the only girls college that not only takes care of the higher education needs of the city but also serves the students coming from rural areas and from Central Government Undertakings like the Ordinance Factory (Pathrota), Central Proof Establishment and A.C. Diesel Locomotive Sheds. On public demand the college was established in the year 1989, and is affiliated to Barkatullah University under section 15(4) of M.P. University Ordinance, 1973. In its first year only 35 girls got enrolled and the administration was under the principal of Govt. Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College, Itarsi. The classes were conducted in a rented building, which lacked in basic facilities like portable drinking water and toilets. Due to the lack of infra structure the strength in the next 5 years was only 90. Things changed in the year 1995, when the municipal committee allotted a plot of 3500 sq. mts, for the college building. An amount of Rs. 12 lakh was given by then M.P. and the current Minister of Public and Work Department, Shri Sartaj Singh, from M.P. fund for the construction of the building. The college is located in ward number 13 and has a double storey building, consisting of 10 classrooms, 8 laboratories, a principal chamber, a staff room and an office for the clerical staff. There are two 1200 Sq. mts Seminar halls and 600 Sq. mts. Central library in the college. For sports and other physical activities the college has a playground, with a badminton court & khokho ground protected by boundary wall.
