Bareli, a semi-urban Tehsil of Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh, is mainly surrounded by agricultural land of high yield crops. The Narmada, which is flowing just 10 kms. from Bareli, makes this land fertile.  Bareli is situated on the National Highway No. 12.  It is just 120 kms. from Bhopal and 200 kms. from Jabalpur.  The only hill statio n of M.P., 'Pachmarhi' is in the southeast about  100 kms. from Bareli. Cascading hills, lush green farm lands add to the beauty of picture surroundings. Locally constituted Narmada Shiksha Samiti adopted education as a political instrument for the social change.  Being the dedicated academician, the Ex-President of India.  HE Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, then an MLA from Udaipura Constituency, felt the need of a college in this remote area. As the villagers could not afford to send their children outside for higher studies.  With the dedication and efforts made by Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, the college was established in the year 1961.  The college was established in the year 1961.  The college was initially affiliated to Vikram University,  Ujjain.  But later on it got affiliation from Barkatullah University, Bhopal and recognized by UGC under section 2(f) and 12(B) of the Act.  The college was established as P.G.
